If you're out and about at AI conferences these weeks, you're bound to run into Jukka Korpi. The Finn works for Silo AI, which claims to be the largest private AI lab in Europe. The northern Europeans want to inspire European industry with their Poro model. They recently opened their first office in Munich. The Finns are also making technological progress. The training for Poro has been successfully completed.
An Industrial AI reference architecture
Siemens and Microsoft announce a reference architecture for industrial AI applications. The reference architecture ensures that data from Siemens edge devices flows smoothly into Azure. At the same time, it will make it easier to monitor industrial AI edge applications and machine learning models from a central location. The goal is to improve the user experience for Siemens and Microsoft customers.
Festo developed the GripperAI software together with Würth. The robot can use different suction cups and grippers - depending on the type of object, shape and surface, GripperAI determines which tool is most suitable. A camera integrated into the robot recognizes the different objects and enables precise selection. To develop the solution, the developers replicated the Würth sorting system in the lab.

Harting, AWS and Industrial AI
Industrial AI was also high on the agenda at Harting's Industrial Ethernet Week. The East Westphalian company dedicated an entire day of its three-day event to the topic. One of the best presentations was given by Danny Smith of AWS. He introduced the topic of GenAI, highlighted the potential, but also made it clear where the industry currently stands.
Yann LeCun was a guest of Lex Fridman. They talked about Meta, LLMs, GenAI, and LeCun's fears. "I see the danger of this concentration of power in proprietary AI systems."
