As furniture designs become more complex, manufacturers face a familiar challenge: how to translate creative concepts into precise, efficient and repeatable production. Curved components, mixed-material structures, seamless edge treatments and demanding surface finishes can require closer coordination between design, processing technology and factory operations. When handled mainly through manual processes, such work can increase production time, labour requirements and material waste.

Marking its 40th anniversary, WMF 2026, the China International Furniture Machinery & Woodworking Machinery Fair (Shanghai), will be held from 5 to 8 September 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai Hongqiao). The fair will bring together woodworking machinery suppliers, furniture manufacturers and industry professionals to explore technologies supporting more efficient, precise and adaptable production.
WoodTech Atelier is a dedicated feature zone that connects finished furniture products with the processes and equipment behind them. Complementing the machinery and production solutions displayed across WMF 2026, participating technology suppliers will present finished products, samples and demonstrations that make their technical capabilities easier to see and evaluate.
Visitors can examine the finished result, understand the relevant production process and speak directly with the supplier about how the technology may be applied to their own manufacturing requirements. By linking production challenges with tangible outcomes, the zone aims to encourage practical dialogue between machinery suppliers and furniture manufacturers.

Technical themes expected to be represented include laser edge banding, curved and special-shaped component processing, mirror-effect and translucent finishing, AI-assisted cutting optimisation, digital mortise-and-tenon processing, laser engraving, machine-vision quality inspection and material optimisation.
For furniture manufacturers assessing new processes or planning production upgrades, WoodTech Atelier provides a focused route through WMF 2026. Visitors can compare technical approaches, identify relevant suppliers and discuss the suitability of individual solutions for their production conditions, quality requirements and efficiency goals.
